Seth Godin writes “if your speech needs to be prefaced by an apology…don’t give it.”

Well, folks, that’s what I think about poetry readings.

Have you ever been to a poetry reading with a poet who “counts down” as they read? They’ll say something like: “just three more poems.” Then they say: “just two more poems.” What a waste. Give us a good story. Don’t count down your poems as though listening to them is something we must endure.
