Notes on Kelli Agodon’s Small Knots

Kelli Agodon Small Knots Kelli Agodon’s book arrived last night. Lovely poems. One favorite of mine describes changes in the speaker’s hips after having had a baby. This is the kind of subject that could make me run in the other direction. Agodon used such fine language — with the precise nature of a surgeon — that I could not help but like this poem. I’d share a few lines but do not have the book with me.

Another poem I enjoyed:

From Vacationing with Sylvia Plath

…Maybe a lot of things. Maybe
if I could slip into Sylvia’s mind,
sort out the spices in her spice rack,
alphabetize them and dust them off.
Maybe then Id understand how
it’s the little things that pull you under.

I haven’t even finished the book yet, but it’s so good I had to write up some notes.
